Response to the McDermott-Porter Dialogue

At the Summa Theologica blog, a long commentary on the recent interfaith dialogue exchange between Gerald R. McDermott (a professor of religion) and Bruce D. Porter (an LDS General Authority), recently published at First Things under the predictable title "Is Mormonism Christian?" [The First Things post was discussed last month in a Times & Seasons post.]

The post praises this particular interfaith exchange, but takes McDermott to task for not representing LDS doctrine with enough clarity and accuracy. The discussion is really quite favorable to the LDS side of the endless discussion about LDS doctrine. More commentary from the same author (who is LDS but posts under the pseudonym "Aquinas") is available at a different site in a post titled "An LDS Perspective on Claiming Christ."
