I'm pleased to announce I have traded in my scales for feathers: I'm now a Flappy Bird in the Ecosystem, pegging out at Number 2348 out of 11,401 weblogs (although the numbers change daily). I don't ordinarily publicize life's little achievements on my blog, but only fellow bloggers can relate to "Hey, good news, I'm a Flappy Bird now." Update: On the traffic ranking (as opposed to the standard ranking based on reciprocal links), I come in at Number 1147. This suggests many sites load up on links to each other but don't really have much content worth visiting on a regular basis.
Like the Blog Club concept, the Ecosystem is just a device or game to make people more aware of links between blogs. Links are a key part of fostering the interactions that make blogging fun and productive. Links are the infrastructure of the blogosphere, with comments playing a strong supporting role. So if you haven't signed up for the Ecosystem yet, go take a look. You could be an Insignificant Microbe before nightfall.
Congrats! Last time I checked, I was a "crawly amphibian."
