Some Evangelicals are unhappy about the event last month where Christian apologist Dr. Ravi Zacharias spoke to a mixed audience of Mormons, Christians, and reporters in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. I blogged on this two weeks ago. Introductory remarks by Dr. Richard Mouw included an apology of sorts for how 19th-century Mormons were treated by his "evangelical forebears," but some hardliners think such apologies are inappropriate, it seems. Another article posted at RNB gives additional quotes from Mouw's remarks, including "We evangelicals have sinned against you" and "We've often seriously misrepresented the beliefs and practices of members of the LDS faith." Those seem like the right kind of things to say at "An Evening of Friendship," the theme of the event. There might be some merit to a couple of the complaining comments I read in the articles, but you'd think people could just forget the sectarian sniping for one friendly evening. Nope.
